<p>Dear Dr. Alman,</p>
<p>I just wanted to drop a quick note to say THANK YOU!  </p>
<p>I don&#8217;t know that there are words to express how I feel right now.  </p>
<p>When we left Maia was positively giggly.  She kept telling me how good she felt.  </p>
<p>This from a little girl that has been very negative and sad for a very long time.<br />
&gt;   She got home and despite not wanting to do her homework she sat down, did it quickly and quietly and then went to bed.  </p>
<p>No crying or angst, no lingering before bed time agonizing over this or that&#8230;just &#8220;good night mom,<br />
I love you&#8230;thanks for taking me to him today&#8221;.  </p>
<p>She fell asleep easily. </p>
<p>She was positive with her siblings.  </p>
<p>I barely recognized her. </p>
<p>Kathy and Dr. Felliti (from Kaiser Permanente) have told me some pretty remarkable stories about<br />
you but this is so much more than I could have even hoped for or imagined. </p>
<p>From the deepest most sincere place in my heart thank you and bless you. </p>
<p>I will be in touch for tune ups as and if they are needed.</p>

<p>My new thing now is to go to bed accepting and loving myself and to see what comes up in that space and then accept it as well.  What came up last night was that I felt I wasn&#039;t doing it right and there had to be more to this than just breathing and accepting and loving.  </p>
<p>Normally on calls rather than do the exercise, I&#039;ll take notes and then I know I have a reference I can refer back to when I think I may not be doing it right.  On Brian&#039;s call I started to do the same thing and then decided that it was more important to be lead thru this experience than it was to write it down.  Last night I was regretting that decision because all I could remember was breathe, accept, love.  I accepted that part of me that did the wrong thing by not taking notes and then went off to sleep.</p>
<p>I often have dreams (I guess that&#039;s what they are-it feels more like a download) and as soon as I become aware of the information I&#039;m being given, I realize it&#039;s really important and I wake up feeling  excited but cannot remember any of the info.  </p>
<p>This morning I clearly remember saying, &quot;You are the same type as me, S-U-F-F-E-R.  I woke with a start and realized that an event I&#039;m sure I shared with you where I did everything I had been told to do and I got stung by a bee.  When I asked my mother why the bee had stung me, she said that was God punishing me for disobeying her.  I remember laying there as a 4yr old thinking, but I did everything she told me.  I even went to great lengths to make sure I didn&#039;t disobey her, yet still God punished me.  I AM NEVER GOING TO BE GOOD ENOUGH FOR GOD!  That was my hidden shame that I didn&#039;t want anyone to know (shadow) so I did everything I could to always be seen as good enough.</p>
<p>Years ago when I saw what I had made this event mean, I could see that my whole life, I had always had that fear of being seen as not good enough. I told myself I had embraced this shadow yet I couldn&#039;t understand why it still had such a hold on me.  Now instead of running my life consciously, I was aware of it, yet still could not move beyond it.  I have been asking for help and guidance and finally just turned it over to a higher source because I just didn&#039;t seem to be able to move beyond that story as painful as it is for me to live from it, it seemed more painful to move beyond it.</p>
<p>I realize now that I had not embraced it, I had just brought it out of the shadow and said, I see you&#8230;&#8230;now I can fix you.  Brian&#039;s call the other night feels like it was the answer to my prayer.  This understanding that I feel I have to suffer explains so much.  Believe me, I have been suffering and to realize I don&#039;t need to is huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!</p>
<p>I&#039;m sending you a big kiss for being brave enough to share your love of Brian&#039;s work with me and a big kiss to him for being there when I was ready for him.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Religion, Meditation, MindBody Healing and Self-Hypnosis </p>
<p>There are always questions about whether self-hypnosis, meditation and mindbody healing are compatible with religious thought or practice, and if there are any problems or barriers.</p>
<p>Let me say that over the last quarter of a century, I have successfully and respectfully taught self-hypnosis, meditation and mindbody healing to priests, ministers, nuns, cantors, shamans, fundamentalists and followers of almost every religion in the world.</p>
<p>Specifically, followers of:</p>
<p>   1. Christianity from the U.S., Europe, Africa and the Philippines.<br />
   2. Islam from the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Russia and China.<br />
   3. Hinduism  from India, Asia, Fiji, Bali, Australia, the U.S., England, France, Germany, Finland, Sweden and Switzerland<br />
   4. Buddhism from India, Sri Lanka, Asia, Indochina, Russia and Holland<br />
   5. Shinto from Japan<br />
   6. Sikhism from India, Australia,the U.S., Asia, England and Europe<br />
   7. Judaism from  Israel, the U.S., South America, Mexico, Asia and Europe<br />
   8. Baha’i from the U.S., India, Vietnam, Kenya, the Philippines, Africa, Iran and Bolivia<br />
   9. Mormonism from the U.S., South America and Europe</p>
<p>In all those years, and with all those people, I have never encountered one religious objection to self-hypnosis, meditation or mindbody healing as I teach it. On the contrary, every single person, no matter what their religious background, has been able to master the skills of self-hypnosis, meditation as well as mindbody helaing and to benefit from their new learning.</p>
<p>You see, self-hypnosis and mindbody healing are processes that are quite familiar and comfortable to religious people. Much like prayer, meditation and self-hypnosis help you quiet your mind and focus deep inside, so that you can begin to get more closely in touch with your inner wisdom, your inner guide, your source, your spirit, your soul—that seed of well-being that is waiting to be nurtured into life. As you calm and center yourself with these approaches, you begin to hear more clearly what I like to call your loving and compassionate “inner Voice”  that is the true source of all your health and happiness.  </p>
<p>Self-hypnosis also has much in common with meditation. Both begin with breath work and mental imagery to help relax the mind and body, and focus inside. But there’s also a big difference. Meditation seeks specifically to bring a detached inner-awareness, while self-hypnosis is also actively goal-directed. In self-hypnosis, you tap into the power of your inner wisdom to achieve a desired life-goal, such as stress management, pain relief, mind-body healing—or weight-loss. </p>
<p>So, far from being at odds with religion, self-hypnosis as well as meditation and mindbody healing work hand-in-hand with all religions to bring about inner peace, unconditional love, and miraculous personal growth—from the inside out.</p>

<p>Crow medicine:<br />
“Crow guides the magic of healing and change in consciousness that will bring about a new reality and dispel dis-ease or illness.”<br />
Crows watched over this unfolding and then circled above with the winds of affirmation under their wings.<br />
The barrier to wellness and healthy living is often created by a misguided and dysfunctional relationship with one’s own power and self-control.  The desire to force compliance and will oneself to be “perfect” by constantly saying “NO” to supposedly bad feelings, thoughts, and needs creates an imbalance that causes the spirit to feel defeated and helpless.  Self-denial and blame/shame/guilt are given the power to squash love, compassion and acceptance.  Fear is allowed to control one’s every move.  The freedom of choice is corrupted into submission to the dictatorship of self-loathing and the desire to escape oneself.  Even one’s right actions can be corrupted to be viewed as a necessary denial of “wrong” impulses and thoughts that can further be used against the psyche as proof that it is intrinsically bad and must be controlled.  This is a LOSE/LOSE scenario that dooms the victim to perpetual failure.<br />
Right action motivated by compassion and love is the antidote to this kind of poison, and creates the only true path to freedom.  Rather than allowing a dominating “Power and Control” paradigm to rule with the punishing hammer of “NO”, Compassion and Love cultivate an embracing atmosphere of “YES” that invites the heart to open and actualizes spiritual growth.  In this paradigm, aliveness and wellness are valued as gifts to be nurtured and cherished.  Denial and shame are replaced by Acceptance which views all feelings and thoughts as welcome guests who may come and go as they please.  The freedom of choice is restored as a life-affirming power for good.<br />
The differences between the two paradigms are acute.  Let’s take the role of food for example.  Here we see on the positive side the power to choose a life-sustaining alliance with nature vs. the negative power to use unnatural substances as a means of escaping life and controlling sensory perception.  Inside a loving paradigm, eating natural foods such as fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins and nutrients that help the body feel well and strong becomes a great big “YES” to aliveness, wellness and happiness.   This is a very big shift from the Power and Control view that says “proper nutrition” is a weapon held to one’s head forcing one to say “NO” to bad cravings, bad feelings, and bad coping.<br />
The war is waged between these two opposing forces regarding the character and experience of the present moment.  Unhealthy foods (the so-called comfort foods which tend to be over-processed and very high in fats, sugar and salt) are recognized by the control paradigm as a method of escape from discomfort or upset.  From a love and compassion perspective, such junk foods are seen as substances that degrade wellness and dampen one’s ability to sense the generative quality of aliveness present in every moment.  This is precisely what makes such “food” useful for moments when the present moment seems unbearable.  They blunt the edges and blur the line between alive and inert.  Control over sensing and feeling is the desired result when sensing and feeling are too painful and overwhelming.  The aliveness so celebrated by the love and acceptance model is exactly the enemy that Control is trying to defeat.<br />
The needs met by both sides must be addressed by any meaningful, workable solution.  It will not do to simple state that love must prevail because it is the “right” answer.  There are too many moments when love just isn’t part of the picture.  Imagine telling a herd of stampeding animals that love will calm and soothe them if they would only stop and take a few deep breaths!  You would be trampled before you got the words out.  It makes much more sense to get out of the way!<br />
Control without domination, power without oppression, freedom without chaos.   [Things that make you go “Hmmmm.”]   Is there an answer that makes sense?  Is there a workable solution that neither restricts/confines, nor tumbles out of control?  Balance and harmony, peace and prosperity lie somewhere in the mythical “middle ground” where the outer and inner realms manage to coexist.  What treaty governs such detent?  Who negotiates the boundaries and settles the disputes?  When the battle rages on both sides of the wall, what place is safe?  How does one keep oneself from becoming collateral damage?  The endless wondering and waiting and uncertainty become companions on the journey.  The conversation with these strange bedfellows goes round and round and always circles back to impotent tautologies such as “It is what it is”, and “I can’t know what I don’t know”.  These are not very comforting or enlightening realizations.  The best of these less than stellar refrains is “Just breathe”.  Perhaps this is the only real solution there is after all.<br />

<p>“Getting back to &#8220;the way I was before&#8221; is really just getting back to how I was managing my challenge. And that&#8217;s not the same as getting to my true, authentic, last row self. For me, this is the chance to get to a new place of true self-love and happiness. Sometimes it feels like I&#8217;m being forced to learn all this&#8211;that my issues won&#8217;t let me off the hook until I really learn the lesson of unconditional self-love. Well, so be it. I can&#8217;t go back, so I&#8217;ll just be patient and know that I will get through this.”</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Please allow me to share a completely different perspective on how to lose weight AND KEEP IT OFF.<br />
My experiences are based on 25 years and tens of thousands of people&#8230;&#8230;(thanks for your openness to new ideas!)&#8230;&#8230;</p>
<p>Why do we begin overeating in the first place? And why, even if we lose the weight, is it so hard to keep it off? What’s the missing ingredient that keeps all these weight-loss plans and programs from making a real, lasting difference?<br />
The truth is, for most of us gaining weight is not the problem, but the solution to our problems.<br />
Overeating, or eating unhealthy foods, is not usually caused by physical appetite. It’s caused by emotional need. For millions (estimated at 70 % of American adults and 30 % of American kids), overeating is a coping mechanism, a practical and positive way we have of dealing with the many stresses in our personal, family, and social lives.<br />
Associating food with comfort and protection is a normal response learned in childhood, probably at the breast or the bottle. And so when faced with life’s difficulties we often turn to food for help, or as a simple form of self-treatment. We even call our portions “helpings,” “treats,” and we say “help yourself” at the table. In a sense, all food is “comfort” food.<br />
Unfortunately, by comforting or treating ourselves with food, we ignore the meaningful signals we’re trying to send to ourselves—our real call for help—that we need to get to the root of the problem.<br />
It has become clear from my work at Kaiser Permanente’s Wellness Center in San Diego, California that the root cause of overeating is almost always repressed feelings. The body is the natural receptacle for repressed, suppressed, or unresolved feelings, and carrying around this kind of emotional weight often creates a need, an emotional hunger, that quickly puts on physical weight as well.<br />
In other words, when you’re miserable inside, when shames and guilts and fears and resentments (and more) are silently “eating” at you, you try to make yourself feel better by indulging yourself with food. And the more feelings you’ve trapped inside, and the longer you’ve suffered with them, the more you want and need to eat.<br />
This explains why the diet plan relapse rate is so high (right around 95 % according to the weight-loss industry’s own figures). All the popular plans will help you lose unwanted pounds—for a little while—but unless you deal with your repressed feelings, unless you do something to lighten the emotional weight you’re carrying inside, you’ll go right back to soothing and satisfying yourself with food.<br />
So this is it—the missing ingredient that goes unrecognized and thus unaddressed in all other weight-loss programs. To make any lasting change in your body weight, you need to dig into your buried feelings and discover what they are, what part they’ve played in your life, and how they’ve brought you to where you are now. Only when you’re willing to face and to resolve your emotional issues, to finish the unfinished business in your life—people, hurts, mistakes, wrongs, and so on—will you be able to get free of your old eating habits and reach your weight-loss goals.<br />
The formula is simple but powerful: If you’ll allow yourself to shed your old emotional and psychological baggage, the physical weight will naturally fall away.<br />
If you want to lose weight and keep it off, to win the battle once and for all, you need to begin at the beginning, with the emotional healing that must take place before you can start to eat, exercise, and care for yourself healthfully. If you’ll look deeply into the underlying emotional causes of your overeating, you can actually turn your weight problem into a doorway, or a bridge, to becoming healthier and happier—permanently.</p>
